This 5-day summer school will have around 10 invited lectures (two hours of each), and a few invited research talks (30-45 minutes of each), two poster sessions and ample free discussion time. Detailed program will be updated at https://ess.sustech.edu.cn in due course.

David Stevenson (California Institute of Technology, USA), professor of planetary sciences, fellow of the Royal Society and member of the United States National Academy of Sciences. 

Lecture topic: Planetary geophysics.

Shun-ichiro Karato (Yale University, USA), professor of geophysics, fellow of American Geophysical Union (AGU) and Japan Geoscience Union.  

Lecture topic: mineral physics.

Andrew Jackson (ETH Zurich, Switzerland), professor of mathematical geophysics, fellow of American Geophysical Union (AGU). 

Lecture topic: dynamics of the Earth’s core.

Shijie Zhong (University of Colorado, Boulder, USA), professor of geophysics, fellow of American Geophysical Union (AGU). 

Lecture topic: geodynamics.

Jeroen Tromp (Princeton University, USA), professor of geosciences and computational mathematics, director of Princeton Institute for Computational Science and Engineering, fellow of American Geophysical Union (AGU) and corresponding member of Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences. 

Lecture topic: global seismology.

Maureen Long (Yale University, USA), professor of geophysics, director of graduate studies of the department of Geology and Geophysics, fellow of American Geophysical Union (AGU). 

Lecture topic: seismic anisotropy in the Earth’s mantle. 

David Yuen (University of Minnesota, USA), professor of geophysics and scientific computations, fellow of American Geophysical Union (AGU). 

Lecture topic: high-performance computing in geosciences.

Greg Beroza (Stanford University, USA), Wayne Loel Professor in Geophysics, fellow of American Geophysical Union (AGU), President of AGU Seismology Section. 

Lecture topic: Earthquake seismology

Jason P. Morgan (Royal Holloway University of London, UK / SUSTech, China), Chair professor in the Department of Ocean Science and Engineering, fellow of American Geophysical Union (AGU). 

Lecture topic: Geodynamics

Registration:

Poster abstract submission:

If you plan to present a poster during the summer school, please send an abstract to epi2019@sustech.edu.cn (titled “Poster submission for SUSTech summer school”) by 10 June 2019.

Logistics:

The summer school will take place in the campus of SUSTech (Lecture Hall, Faculty Research Building 1). Participants need to pay and arrange their own travels, accommodations and meals.

Financial support:

Some limited financial supports are available to undergraduates and graduate students. For supported students, SUSTech will cover their travel costs, accommodations and meals during the summer school. If you need to apply financial supports, please complete the attached application form and send the form to epi2019@sustech.edu.cn (titled “Financial support for SUSTech summer school”) by 31 May 2019. Selected applicants will be noticed in early June 2019.
